UNESCO adopts Open Science and AI ethical recommendations

UNESCO 41st General Conference (November 2021) adopted two very important documents linked to the development of science in the 21st century, and in particular to contribute to the SDGs in a responsible way.

The Open Science recommendation is revolutionary in its way of highlighting the core values guiding science, like integrity, openness, transparency, equity, inclusiveness. It also explicitely mentions a crucial consideration and respect to the indigenous knowledge, giving to academic organizations a much broader responsibility to act agora or third space in the dialogue between science and the society at large.

During the same meeting, UNESCO also adopted new ethical guidelines recommendations for artificial intelligence, placing the interest of the people (and their human rights) as first priority, above the economical interests of shareholders and global big data companies which have place AI on top of their development strategies.
